Hilary makes individual ceramic pieces, drawing inspiration from the changing landscapes and eroding sea shores around us, particularly in Cornwall and East Anglia, where she grew up.

Having completed an arts Foundation course at Ipswich School of Art, Hilary studied ceramics at W.S.C.A.D Farnham, and has worked as a practicing studio potter since graduating. Exhibitions have been held throughout the U.K. and abroad including, Portugal, Hong Kong and United States

Hilary works in stoneware and porcelain clays, using a variety of making techniques. The scale of the work ranges from very large coil built bowls to tea bowls in various sizes. A common theme, irrespective of scale, is the juxtaposition between the iridescent crystalline interior and the tactile, eroded exterior.

The ‘Fragile Landscape’ series combines eroded volcanic surfaces with pearl and silver crystalline glazes, reminiscent of the contrasting surfaces of an oyster shell. The palette of glazes is evocative of granite cliffs, seashore and crashing waves.

Hilary’s studio is in Bickmarsh near Bidford on Avon, Warwickshire. You are welcome to visit the studio. Classes and workshops are also held there.
