Caroline Barnett – Sculptor
Caroline Barnett grew up on a farm in the Cotswolds, where she developed a deep love of nature and the subtle shapes and curves of living things. Expressing this through art was a natural development, but she qualified as a solicitor and spent a busy 24 years travelling with her diplomat husband, bringing up their two children and working in a variety of ways and places.
Back now in the Cotswolds, she began sculpting seriously in 2001, initially in ceramics. She soon widened her scope to include a variety of sculptural materials and larger pieces, and now produces limited editions of some pieces in bronze; bronze resin; stone resin and iron resin, as well as continuing with ceramic sculpture.
Caroline’s work is largely figurative, and living things remain the bedrock. Fascinated by the way thought and instinct are expressed externally in form, she is particularly inspired by those moments of intense concentration in a subject when total absorption – in stillness or in activity – results in unselfconscious revelation of character.
Her works are in private collections in this country, Germany, Australia and the USA, and she is always willing to consider commissions both for indoor and outdoor pieces.
